Jim McAlister IV
President & Chief Executive Officer
Jim McAlister IV is President and CEO of Rockspring Capital, a Houston-based real estate private equity firm whose strategy is to acquire opportunistic real estate, land parcels and residential lots with all-cash in high growth areas within the Texas Triangle – Houston, Austin, San Antonio and Dallas/Ft. Worth. Established in 1973, the firm has offices in Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Calgary and Edmonton.
McAlister joined Rockspring in 1993. Today, he is responsible for overseeing and leading the company and its investment activities. He has raised and successfully invested on behalf of premier North American investment partners more than $300 million in capital in 12 fund vehicles since 2003. Prior to the creation of the Land Fund No. 1 in 2003, he participated in the management of more than 30 separate limited partnership investments.
McAlister has been featured as an expert on Texas land in several local and national top-tier publications. He regularly discusses Texas land at premier real estate and investment forums and conferences around the U.S. and in other countries.
Before joining Rockspring Capital, McAlister worked for CB Richard Ellis from 1986 to 1993. He also spends his time and energy as an active member of numerous Texas-based charities. McAlister earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from The University of Texas at Austin in 1986.
Senior Vice President & Chief Operating Officer
Beau Ryan joined Rockspring Capital in 2007 and oversees all financial and administrative matters for Rockspring Capital and its related entities. He is also responsible for communications and reporting on partnership activities to limited partners. Prior to joining the company, Beau was Director of Financial Analysis at Landry’s Restaurants where he played a key role in new site development and held oversight responsibility for real estate asset management. Before his time at Landry’s, he provided financial and strategic analysis in support of planning, budgeting and other reporting processes at Invesco Aim. Beau earned a BA in Public Relations from The University of Texas at Austin and his MBA in Finance from the University of Houston.
Michael Ross joined Rockspring Capital in 2006 and is responsible for property acquisition and enhancement activities. He oversees all pre-acquisition due diligence and post-closing entitlement activities for the Funds. Prior to joining Rockspring, Michael was Vice President at Todd Land Company, a longtime residential development company in the Houston metro area. With Todd Land Company, Michael was directly responsible for the acquisition, financing and development of six residential communities. Prior to working with Todd Land Company, Michael was one of the youngest Area Managers for Royce Homes, where he managed sales, marketing and construction activities in 12 separate communities throughout Houston. His knowledge of homebuyer and developer tendencies is critical to the property selection process at Rockspring. Michael has a BS in Environmental Management from the University of Houston-Clear Lake.
Mike Axelrad joined Rockspring Capital in 2017 as Managing Director of Capital Markets. He is responsible for raising capital associated with Rockspring’s strategic acquisitions of opportunistic real estate, land parcels and residential lots in high growth areas. He will sit on the firm’s investment committee of acquisitions. Before joining Rockspring, Axelrad served as Senior Vice President of Leasing and Redevelopment at Brixmor Property Group where he oversaw leasing and asset management of its Texas portfolio totaling 10 million square feet of retail shopping centers. He received his BBA in Accounting from The University of Texas at Tyler and his JD in specializing in Taxation from The University of Houston.
Darla Purchase joined Rockspring Capital in 2007 as Financial Administrator to manage the accounting functions for all of the Land Funds. Additionally, she is responsible for the accounting of all of the related partnerships and joint ventures associated with the US Land Funds, as well as our Canadian Funds. Prior to joining Rockspring, Darla served 25 years as a Financial/Business Administrator in the private business sector in the finance and agriculture industries. Darla studied business at Texas Weslayan University.
Michael Kastel joined Rockspring Capital in 2017 as Director, Investor Relations. He is responsible for client reporting, investor requests, operations/data management coordination and due diligence assistance. Prior to joining Rockspring, Michael served as account manager for Microbial Discovery Group where he led his team in generated revenue in both domestic and international market segments, created the company’s entire sales process cycle and more. He received his BS in Business Marketing & Sales from Carthage College and his BA in Political Science from the University of Delaware.
Harrison joined McAlister Real Estate in 2014 and focuses on Land Brokerage in the greater Houston area. He represents his clients on both the acquisition and sale side of transactions. Prior to joining the company, Harrison worked at Transwestern and Integral Advisors. He is a 6th generation Houstonian, is a supporter of Young Texans Against Cancer (YTAC) and is a volunteer baseball coach at Post Oak Little League. Harrison is a licensed Real Estate Salesperson in the State of Texas and received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from the University of Georgia.
William De Young joined Rockspring Capital in 2013. He works as a project manager for the due diligence department, which is responsible for the acquisitions and enhancements of properties for the Land Funds. Prior to joining Rockspring he served in the United States Navy for five years as a Corpsman.
James Kadlick joined Rockspring Capital in 2002 and is responsible for site acquisition and the sale of existing inventory. Since that time, he has brokered more than $265 million in land sales in the Greater Houston Area. James has worked with a myriad of buyers, including investors, retail developers, apartment developers and single-family developers. Prior to joining Rockspring, James was Vice President at Keeland and Associates, a residential construction company located in Houston. James holds a BA in Management Information Systems from Texas Tech University.
Chris Hutcheson joined Rockspring Capital in 2004 and is responsible for identifying new investment opportunities, marketing current inventory and raising investment capital. Since joining the company, he has been involved in more than $300 million in real estate transactions. Chris has broad market knowledge in all submarkets of Houston. Prior to joining Rockspring, Chris worked for InSite Realty as an Associate in their Corporate Services Division. Chris holds a BA from The University of Texas at Austin.
Matt Herring joined Rockspring Capital in 2011, bringing nearly a decade of experience to the company's real estate team. Before joining Rockspring, he spent nine years working for Grubb & Ellis Company, where he served on the Houston Grubb & Ellis Board of Directors and was recognized for his outstanding work, including the 2003 Rookie of the Year Award. Matt holds a BA in Government from the University of Texas at Austin.
David Orr joined Rockspring Capital in 2014 and is responsible for property acquisition and enhancement activities in the Austin and San Antonio markets. David provides 36 years of experience in all aspects of commercial real estate. Prior to joining Rockspring, David founded REI Development Inc. to provide consulting and development services to retail and industrial clients. David has also previously served as Director of Industrial Services for Lat Purser & Associates, a regional brokerage and development firm; Senior Vice President for CB Commercial; and, Director of Development Services for First Union National Bank. David’s extensive background makes him uniquely qualified to provide a wide variety of services including detailed site analysis, site and facility acquisition, lease and contract negotiation, investment analysis and all aspects of property development. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a BA in geography and a MA in economics and geography.
George Herrera joined McAlister Real Estate in 2013 and operates out of the Company’s San Antonio office. In addition to growing the office, George is responsible for the acquisition and sale of commercial tracts to developers, investors and end users. Prior to joining McAlister Real Estate, George progressed in entrepreneurial ventures in finance, real estate and service industries. A San Antonio native, George received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from Texas State University.
Vonda Crisp joined Rockspring Capital in 2015 as a Texas Realtor Land Specialist. Vonda brings 17 years of experience to the team and has been licensed in real estate in three states. She’s worked for realty companies such as RE/Max and New Home Conexion Realty, and her experience includes residential, commercial, ranch land, new construction, foreclosures/ REO and short sale properties. She is a graduate of the Curtiss Academy of Real Estate, Mississippi Real Estate Institute, & Texas A&M-Commerce.
